Holle Meat Based Organic Baby Weaning Recipes – An Update

By Sabine on 10 June 2009

A very quick post today with further updates on  Holle organic baby food in jars.

As we mentioned in a previous article towards the end of April, the  certified biodynamic chicken in the popular Holle Organic Pumpkin and Chicken jars is currently almost impossible to source on the continent and we are currently out of stock.

Unfortunately, our remaining stock of our Organic Meat Baby Weaning Lunches (3x Organic Pumpkin and Chicken and 3 x Potatoes, Corn and Beef) is now also depleted. We apologise to all those mums and dads who have contacted us asking for their baby’s favourite meat weaning recipes – Holle are not currently able to give us a delivery date as they are not yet able to source the chicken to the high quality that they demand for their baby foods. We will keep you posted as we hear news.

In the meantime, as you will see from yesterday’s blog post, Holle have released their Finest Organic Beef baby jars. These particular baby jars have a very high meat content and are intended to be used as an accompaniment to a vegetable or grain based meal, not as a meal in itself. You only need to use half a jar at a time, making them excellent value for money.

Holle have today told me that they intend to release a similarly high meat content turkey jar as an additional meat accompaniment, for those parents wanting to introduce high quality organic meat into their baby’s weaning diet. As always, we will keep you posted.

What organic baby weaning recipes would you like to see Holle include in their jarred range? Let us know and we’ll pass it on.

Holle Organic Baby Food Jars – Two New Recipes Now Available

By Sabine on 9 June 2009

Holle have recently introduced two new organic baby food jars to their ever increasing range of simple, wholesome and natural recipes. Ulula is please to be the exclusive UK supplier for these new baby jars and our initial taste tests amongst family and friends show they deserve to be real weaning winners.

Holle Organic Finest Beef

The Holle Organic Finest Beef baby jars are not intended to be a complete meal in itself, but rather are to be used as a meat accompaniment to your homemade baby weaning recipes or to mix into a jar of one of Holle’s great pureed vegetable baby jars and/or one of their organic baby porridges. Please only use half a jar for a single meal – you can safely store the other half for the next day in the fridge (below 5°) – making these meat jars excellent value for money.

The organic beef used in these jars is of premium Swiss origin and is from cows that have been raised in pastures that have been organically cultivated for decades. Holle has close relationships with its farmers and will only work with those whose high quality standards meet their demanding expectations and that rear their animals in the most humane and natural way.

Holle Pumpkin With Rice

These lovely jars were firm favourites with our testers whose babies loved the mild pumpkin flavour of this recipe – one mum even placed an order for three cases before her daughter had finshed the meal!

The Holle Organic Pumpkin and Rice is ideal if, as can sometimes happen, your baby has developed a tendency to constipation after introducing root vegetables like carrots – switching to pumpkin as a weaning vegetable for your baby is usually then recommended.

Weleda Skin Food Wins Major Beauty Award – Why Not Treat Yourself?

Classic Beauty Product of the Year

Weleda have just announced that their wonderful Skin Food has won the prestigious Silver Award for the Classic Beauty Product of the Year at the Clothes Show London. I use the Skin Food everyday and can certainly agree that it is a real winner!

Weleda Skin Food is a rich cream to deeply nourish, protect and repair skin. It is one of Weleda’s original skincare products and is extremely popular now due to it being ‘discovered’ by a number of celebrities – and, of course, the fantastic combination of plant extracts that really do feed your skin the goodness it needs.

Mums Work Hard – You Deserve Treats Too!

Weleda Skin Food is a deep-penetrating replenishing skin repair cream for dry patches of skin and for added protection. It  contains extracts of soothing chamomile, calendula, wild pansy and a blend of enriching oils and waxes to provide a fine protective barrier against the ravages of the weather.

Even before the addition of the plant extracts and essential oils the base itself is food for dry skin. Hypoallergenic lanolin, sweet almond oil and sunflower seed oil are three of the main ingredients of the base. Lanolin, chemically, is almost identical to sebum, the natural oil produced by the skin. It is therefore an ideal substance to ‘feed’ to dry skin. Both almond and sunflower seed oil soften and soothe the skin and also assist in the penetration of other soothing, rejuvenating ingredients.

How and When to Use Weleda Skin Food

Skin Food can be used as a nourishing day and night cream. It is good for rough, dry skin anywhere on the body; face, hands, elbows, knees etc. It can be used as a protective cream in harsh weather and is excellent for anyone regularly out of doors.

Directions for Use

A little goes a long way, so apply sparingly. This very rich cream is best applied to the face by gently patting on so as to avoid dragging the skin. Elsewhere on the body gently smooth into the skin until the cream is absorbed. To deeply nourish hard working, dry hands: apply liberally, cover with cotton gloves and leave overnight.

I use the Weleda Skin Food everyday and can feel the results. Let me know how you like Weleda’s latest prize winner.

Thank you for your great website and fantastic and speedy service,

Don’t forget, every person who places an order with Ulula in June will be entered into a prize draw to win copies of two books by one of my favourite authors on child-rearing, Steve Biddulph. Check out “The Secret of Happy Children: A Guide for Parents” and “More Secrets of Happy Children: A Guide for Parents” – both offer priceless advice and food for thought for any parent.

Preparing Holle Baby Porridges – Avoiding Lumps

By Sabine on 3 June 2009

Sometimes parents tell me that they find it difficult to prepare the Holle organic baby porridges without lumps. I instantly know the problem and a simple piece of advice is all that is needed to quickly and simply prepare baby porridges with a fine, smooth consistency that is perfect for weaning babies.

Baby Porridges Without Lumps

So, how can the baby porridges be prepared in such a way as to completely avoid a lumpy texture? Simply add the liquid to the bowl first and then stir in the powdered baby porridge.

I think, as adults, we become so accustomed to mixing liquids into powders that we sometimes find this counter-intuitive and we automatically prepare the baby porridges the same way. But by closely following the instructions on the packaging lumps really should not occur, allowing you to feed your baby the perfect porridge.

Just a few other general pointers when feeding your baby with the Holle baby porridge range:

  • Please follow the ingredients measurements on the baby porridge packaging carefully. The correct amount of ingredients will ensure your baby receives the correct nutrients for his or her age and developmental stage.
  • Always prepare baby porridges freshly for each feed. Do not use leftovers.
  • Due to the risk of overheating, please do not heat baby porridges in a microwave.

Do let me know your questions about our organic baby foods and weaning babies – your questions can help others too.

The Swiss organic baby food manufacturer has just launched the new 3 grain baby porridge recipe on the continent and we are pleased to already have an ample supply of cases of the gluten free version available to purchase.

Holle Organic Three Grain Baby Porridge – Ingredients

The Holle Organic Three Grain Baby Porridge is made from three popular gluten free organic/biodynamic grains – rice, corn and millet – and is suitable for all babies including those with a gluten intolerance and those who wish to avoid feeding their babies with foods containing gluten before the age of 6 months.

When and How to Use?

The 3 grain is an ideal porridge during the second and third stages of weaning your baby.

As with all Holle baby porridges you can prepare the Organic Three Grain Porridge for your baby’s breakfast with breast milk, baby milk formula or even water.

By adding freshly prepared fruit puree (quickly and simply prepared using the Ulula glass grater) or adding some teaspoons of one of the Holle fruit jars your baby will enjoy a delicious and nutritious afternoon snack.

To make a lunch for your baby just add the Holle gluten free Three Grain Baby Porridge to your home made vegetable puree or mix with Holle carrots, carrots with apple or parsnips.

Let us know how your baby likes the new gluten free recipe for the Holle Three Grain Baby Porridge, whether he or she has a gluten intolerance or not.

Ulula Organic Baby Food – Summer 2009 Give Away

By Sabine on 1 June 2009

I love reading, I read lots of books both fiction and non-fiction and one of my favourite times to read is out in the garden on a lovely summer day. You just can’t beat it. So, to celebrate summer I am giving away some of my favourite reads from last year.

Every Ulula customer who places an order for organic baby food and skin care products during June, July or August will have his or her name entered into a prize draw to win two excellent parenting books by the author Steve Biddulph.

I have three double-packs of “The Secret of Happy Children: A Guide for Parents” and “More Secrets of Happy Children: A Guide for Parents” to give away this summer, both full of priceless advice and food for thought. All orders, large or small, will be entered in the draw and the lucky winners will be notified by email at the end of each month. The books will be send out shortly afterwards.

The Secret of Happy Children

In this very readable book the author lets you into the mind of your child to show how the positive ways you relate to a child will have strong effects on growing self esteem, responsibility, stable emotions and present and future happiness.

Biddulph shows how negative language will affect children and explains why children may rebel and how you ca deal with any discipline issues. You will find out how kids experience emotions such as anger, fear and apathy.

Other issues are discussed such as fathering, ages and stages, stopping tantrums before they start, and curing shyness. The book contains scenarios, dialogues and case histories alongside cartoons.

An Investment in Your Children

Image of More Secrets of Happy Children: A Guide for Parents

The first time I came across this book was during our summer holidays in Austria at my sisters house. She had this book lying around and once I started reading it I just couldn’t put it down. The book is written in a humorous style without losing any of the seriousness of the subject.

Ever since, I have thought of this book as a bible for modern parents. Nowadays we can’t rely on the extended family for parenting advice and this book gives us much practical, down to earth and genuinely humane understanding, that may otherwise be lost to us in our hectic modern lives.

If you are not one of our three lucky winners, buy them anyway – think of them as an investment in your children and your life together as a family. Here are the Amazon links to the two books:

I wish you as much enjoyment from them as I had. Happy summer reading!
