Organic Fruit Bars For Older Babies – Sales of Surprise Bestsellers to Be Temporarily Limited

By Sabine on 10 July 2009

Holle organic snack bars for babies

Holle organic snack bars for babies

We have been told by Holle baby foods that their delicious Organic fruit Bars for older babies and toddlers continue to sell out in Europe and that they can only just keep up with demand. This is certainly also the case here at Ulula, the fruit bars have become overnight snack bestsellers.

Thankfully, I was able to negotiate a good quantity in Ulula’s last delivery of baby food. However, I would like to make sure that all my customers have the chance to buy the fruit bars when they need them for their babies. Because the bars are so popular I want to be fair in how they are distributed.

Therefore, could I ask customers to please restrict the number of the Holle Organic Fruit Bars that you buy to no more than four multi-packs per order? Obviously, I won’t limit the amount that you can place in the site shopping basket. But for the next month or so, if I could be cheeky and ask you not to buy more than 4 multi packs per order, then that should ensure everyone will be able to buy at least some of the fruit bars.

If you do have any questions about the Holle Organic Fruit Bars for babies and toddlers, please do get in touch. Thank you for being so considerate.

Weaning Babies, Strawberries and Allergies – Plus a Quick Summer Recipe For Older Babies

By Sabine on 9 July 2009

Strawberries - exercise caution when weaning babies

Strawberries - exercise caution when weaning babies

Ever since the ancient Romans introduced strawberries to Britain two thousand years ago they have been a firm summer favourite – and rightly so in my opinion. Not only are they delicious, they contain more vitamin C than oranges and are rich in fibre.

Weaning Babies and Strawberries

Please remember though at this time year that strawberries are reported to cause allergies or an intolerance in babies and young children from time to time. If your baby is still under one year old and is weaning, perhaps consider waiting to introduce strawberries until next season. I would suggest this should particularly be the case if there is a family history of allergic reactions and/or asthma or eczema.

Because strawberries are such a soft fruit that readily absorb pesticidal sprays it is also important to try and buy organic strawberries for your baby or child.

A Quick Strawberry Ice Lolly Recipe

Try blending five strawberries with one banana, four ice cubes, a strawberry yoghurt, half a cup each of milk and fruit juice. Pour the liquid into paper cups, cover with plastic wrap and insert a lolly stick. Freeze for at least five hours – healthy homemade strawberry lollies for older babies and children!

Lavera Natural Suncare Range For Babies – Sun Protection Factors Explained

By Sabine on 7 July 2009

Lavera Baby and Child Suncream

Lavera Baby and Child Suncream

With the arrival of British summer, sales of the Lavera suncare range have been high amongst concerned parents wanting to protect their babies from the effects of the sun with the most natural suncreams on the market.

Lavera is the market leader for natural sun protection and has won many awards. Lavera was the first manufacturer worldwide to produce 100% natural mineral-based sun protection and is one of the only suncreams I will use on my own children.

Several parents have been asking about Sun Protection Factors (SPFs) and what they mean. We passed on your enquiries to Lavera and here is their reply.

With the introduction of the recent EU regulations, SPFs are now much more specifically declared on sun protection products.  The highest claimed SPF will be SPF 50+.

A sunscreen’s SPF is basically the degree to which it protects the skin from the direct rays of the sun. The sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays are in two varieties: UVA, which cause premature aging and damage to the skin and  UVB, which cause burning. Both UVA and UVB in excess can increase the risk of skin cancer in later life. SPF tells you how much longer it will take for your skin to begin to redden with the product on than if your skin was unprotected.

The protection given by sunscreens now has to be in a UVA:UVB  ratio of 1:3. This permits the producer to include the new UVAS symbol on their products.

In the past UVA protection given by a product did not have to be specified on sun protection labels  (SPF refers to UVB rays). A manufacturer could have  said UVA and UVB protection but the UVA may have been only the equivalent of 5% of the UVB. The protection now has to be in excess of 33%.

So far the only mineral sunscreen company to have achieved this standard (and use the symbol)  is LAVERA.

Apparently Ulula  has received several  comments regarding the Lavera’s new sun protection range and its maximum SPF of 20.

To clarify, as UVB radiation is the main cause of sunburn, we all look for a product that will protect us from this. A product with SPF 15 blocks out about 92% of UVB rays, while a product with an SPF of 20 blocks about 95% of UVB rays.

Sunscreens with higher SPF’s only provide minimal more protection. For instance, a suncream with SPF 50 will only provide another 2-3% more protection. Therefore Lavera sun creams with SPF 20 generally provide sufficient protection against harmful UVB rays, whilst remaining 100% natural, which is always a bonus.

The following sun care products from Lavera are now available for purchase.

Protecting Your Baby From The Sun

We all love the sunshine but it is so important to keep your baby safe, even on less sunny days during the summer. Always apply sufficient sun cream or spray through hot and sunny days as well as following a few other sensible precautions:

  • Babies under six months should never be exposed to the sun – always keep them in the shade;
  • Keep babies and children out of direct sunlight between 11am and 3pm;
  • Make sure they always wear a hat, preferably one that covers the top of the neck too;
  • Keep babies and children well hydrated;
  • Make sure they wear loose clothing made from close-weave fabric to prevent sun rays from penetrating;
  • Use natural sunscreens designed for children and apply frequently and in sufficient quantity;
  • Explain to your little ones why you are protecting them.

If you have any further questions about the Lavera suncare range, please do get in touch. Enjoy the summer!

Ulula Organic Baby Food Summer Giveaway Winner For June

By Sabine on 5 July 2009

At the beginning of June I announced the Ulula organic baby food summer giveaway. Because I love reading outside in the garden on lovely summer days, I decided to give away some of my favourite reads from last year.

Image of The Secret of Happy Children: A Guide for Parents

Every Ulula customer who places an order for organic baby food and skin care products during June, July or August will have his or her name entered into a prize draw to win two excellent parenting books by the author Steve Biddulph.

I had three double-packs of “The Secret of Happy Children: A Guide for Parents” and “More Secrets of Happy Children: A Guide for Parents” to give away this summer, both full of priceless advice and food for thought. All orders, large or small, will be entered in the draw and the lucky winners will be notified by email at the end of each month.

June Winner

Last Friday we drew the name of our June winner – congratulations to long time customer Samantha H. The two books were posted on Friday and should be with you shortly, if you haven’t already received them.

I wish you as much enjoyment from them as I had. Happy summer reading!

Bohlsener Mill is one of Germany’s leading manufacturers of premium quality organic  food, specialising in baked products, mueslis, cereal products, biscuits and crackers.

Organic Food For Every Member of the Family

But Bohlsener Mill doesn’t just make food for children. As many of you already know, the company has plenty to offer other members of the family.

We already offer a small selection of biscuits and crispbreads as well as a large range of mueslis and crunchies and some more specialist mixes and grain products. (The Vanilla Spelt Cresents are a particular favouite of mine, once you taste them you just have to have more. And more!)

Ever since introducing Bohlsener Mill to the UK we have had a large number of requests from impressed customers who want to try their other foods, organic foods of a type and a quality you just can’t find anywhere else in this country. So, over the next few weeks we will be introducing some exciting products for you to try. As always, we would appreciate your comment and feedback. Have fun trying out something new.
