The winner of our June summer giveaway sent a lovely email on Tuesday and it seems like the two parenting books by Steve Biddulph have found a good home. Thanks for the kind words Samantha, and thank you for more recommendations for everyone to have a look at. Seems like we all now have some good reading sorted for over the summer.
Dear Sabine,
I hope this email finds you & your family well! I just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful surprise that arrived, can’t believe it i’ve never won anything in my life!
I will enjoy reading these books as i’m totally into parenting books, my daughter will be 2yrs old in november & at times like most parents need all the help I can lay my hands on!
I have in fact read a book by Steve Biddulph before called Raising Girls (also written by Gisela Preuschoff) which was very good. I’m currently reading New Toddler Taming by Dr Christopher Green which I would also rate highly. Not to bore you, but have been recommended by a client at work The Incredible Years by Carolyn Webster-Stratton, thank god for amazon!!!!
Once again thank you very much!

Thanks for the tips Samantha. If other parents have good parenting books that you would like to recommend please either post a comment or send me an email.
I thought I would finish this week with a couple of emails we have received recently. We value all your feedback, it’s the best way we have of planning to improve the Ulula site and the baby foods ranges that we offer.
Dear Sabine
Thank you so much for putting yourself out and sending my package even though you already had so many orders to send out. You are truly a top business woman who really knows how to run a company and look after her customers!
Thanks again
Cassie
Hi Sabine,
just a quick email to say I received my order and am very pleased with the
quality of the items. The carob is really delicious.
I am pleased to have discovered your website, thank you very much.
Best regards,
Ejaz
I do occasionally get in touch with customers to talk about the site and how we can improve your shopping experience with us. Many thanks to those who have recently given us some food for thought – look out for future developments.
I was told a really nice story recently when a grandmother phoned wanting to buy two of our popular glass graters. When I said that it is unusual for someone to buy two at a time she told me that they were actually for two of her daughters, one of whom is pregnant and the other has a baby coming up to weaning age – neither of who were yet customers of Ulula.
The grandmother explained that her third daughter – who is a Ulula customer – had previously bought a glass grater and the four of them had all that day gone out for lunch in their local Marks and Spencer cafe. She told me:
“We got our meals and sat down. My daughter reached into her baby’s bag and brought out her glass grater – none of us had seen it before. Then she took out an apple and a banana. She cut the apple into four and there and then made the baby’s lunch! She just quickly rubbed the apple on the grater, mashed in a bit of banana and mixed it all togther. The whole thing was ready in a minute. My other two daughters sat there amazed. All I heard during lunch was how good the glass graters are and how they had to buy one.”
So, as soon as she got home she thought she would treat her daughters and buy them both a glass grater. How sweet!
I thought I would repost our short video showing just how quick and easy our glass grater is at making purees when weaning your baby. It really does have to be seen to be believed.
Glass graters have been used for generations by mums to prepare pureed fruit and vegetables when first weaning their babies. Using a glass grater gives you exactly the right consistency of fruit or vegetables you need when preparing your home made baby food. Experience shows us that no other grater can achieve this consistency with so little mess or waste.
Share your glass grater stories and tell other mums how it helps you wean your baby, wherever you are.
I thought I would finish this week with a couple of feedback emails we have received in the last few days.
Dear Sabine,
I wanted to thank you for the note you wrote on our last order! Our little lady is certainly a Holle baby, as I was before her. We are still at the trying out stage, but she has such a good appetite – this week’s favourite – the rice baby porridge!
Thank you for your great website and fantastic and speedy service,
Sophie
Hi sabine just to let you know i have received my order.that was super quick thank you very much.

I think it is all too easy for online shoping to be an impersonal experience and I like to think that Ulula at least tries to reverse that trend. We like to receive your feedback, whether positive or not, because that helps us to improve the Ulula website as well as the service we provide.
Let us know how we can improve your online organic baby food shopping experience for you and other parents. Leave us a comment, send an email or even give us ring.
I want the Ulula website to be as useful and informative as possible and to help busy mums and dads to make informed choices when shopping for baby food for their little ones.
A number of parents have recently suggested we implement a rating system so that shoppers can rate the baby foods and skin care ranges on the site. I loved this idea and asked Roger to come up with a technical solution that allows each customer to vote once on every product – to give a rating out of 5.
So Roger has written and tested a custom rating system for the Ulula site and we have sent an email to well over two hundred customers asking them to give some initial ratings on products of their choice so that we could lauch the system with some already useful information. This was a big commitment to ask of customers – if you were one of the randomly chosen 250, a huge thank you from every one on the Ulula team. This whole exercise has been a heart warming example of how committed the Ulula community of parents is to making the site wok for other parents looking for premium organic baby food. Thank you to you all.
We have now reached our deadline for receivng these initial ratings and we now have the task of entering the ratings into the site database. Once this is done we will launch the new rating system and you are all encourged to vote for the products that you, your baby and the whole family enjoy. Look out for a special Ulula twist that Roger has built in.
As existing customers will already know, I try to make sure I personalise the service I offer and always write a little note with every order. Many customers email or write back and tell me more about their babies and families.
When H. placed an order recently I assumed she was buying for her baby, but it seems the gluten free food she was buying was really for herself. This isn’t actually that unusual, because although Ulula is a online shop for organic baby food, we do sell many food items that are suitable for older children as well as adult members of the family with gluten intolerance.
Hi Sabine
Thankyou for your note with my recent order.
the items are i’m ordering are actually for myself (a rather overgrown child!) not my baby.
since finding out i have a severe gluten intolerance i’ve really really missed wheat based crispbreads – ricecakes are for me a rather poor substitute, but having found your products, i now don’t feel i’m missing out at all.they are fantastic and have given me such a boost as i’m now feeliing so healthy without gluten, but am also loving everything i’m eating which is important!
also thankyou for your quick and reliable service. i’ve been very impressed al round.
very best wishes
H.
A New Gluten Free Menu Structure
After receiving H.’s email we had another look at our gluten free menu item and quickly realised that the gluten free category page was rather unwieldly, with currently over 70 items on one page!
We, therefore, had a rethink about how we present the gluten free foods and have restructured the menu item to make it more user friendly. The menu now resembles the following structure:
So, thanks to H. for the kind comments and for the idea to improve how we present our gluten free products. Hopefully we have made it easier for everyone with a gluten intolerance to quickly find the foods they are looking for.
Do you or a baby or child you buy food for have a gluten intolerance? If so, how do you find our new ‘gluten free’ menu structure? Let us know.
When we receive orders at Ulula we do often wonder about the babies and families our food goes to feed. So it is always great to hear from mums and dads – we love to hear how your babies like the food as well as any comments you have on our service and the website.
Thanks to Victoria who sent us the following feedback, along with a photo of her baby daughter Matilda – what a lovely baby!
Dear Sabine
I have recently received my order from you and just wanted to say a huge thank you for supplying Holle in the UK. My four month old daughter, Matilda, absolutely adores all of them, from the baby porridges to the puddings! In fact, her nursery staff have today informed me that she was very upset that they didn’t feed her quick enough today!!!! She’s sleeping better, she loves the baby tea and is generally on top of the world! She has recently had tonsilitus and the organic tea has managed to relax her just before bed. I shall mail you some photos of Matilda eating Holle as you won’t believe the state she gets in, thank goodness it’s organic and is probably good for her skin!!!!!!
(By the way, my 7 year old tried the pudding too today and he loves it!!!!!)
I am sure she will soon finish the food that I have ordered and can’t wait to purchase some more from you.
I also wanted to say thank you for your kind note you put on the invoice, it’s so nice to receive such a personal service from you.
I am looking forward to dealing with you more in the future.
With kind regards
Victoria
