New Lavera After Sun Lotion for Children – For Immediate Despatch

By Sabine on 15 June 2009

Lavera after sun lotion

Lavera after sun lotion

Lots of parents concerned with protecting their babies and children from the effects of the sun have asked if we could stock after sun lotion. We have therefore added the award winning Lavera After Sun Lotion to our suncare range and it is now available for immediate despatch.

Lavera After Sun Lotion pleasantly cools, moisturises and soothes your skin after spending time in the sun. Moisturising aloe vera gel and sea buckthorn oil naturally soothe the skin. Essences of rose, lavender and green tea cool the skin after sunbathing. Skin nourishment is provided through active ingredients of jojoba oil, olive oil and shea butter.

The Lavera After Sun Lotion was a winner in the Natural Health magazine beauty awards and is, as you would expect from Lavera, produced from only the finest quality natural and organic ingredients.

Limited Stock of Organic Sun Creams for Mums – Treat Yourself

While stocking up on the Lavera suncare range I thought Ulula should have something that little bit special for all you hard working mums. The ageing effects of lots of sunshine are well known, so we now have for immediate sale some of the excellent Lavera Anti-Age Sun Cream. We do only have a limited stock of this sun cream so please do order early.

Anti-Aging SPF15 is waterproof and offers sun protection against UVA, UVB and UVC rays as well as helping to prevent skin damage and ageing. Innovative active ingredients hyaluronic acid and organic aloe vera naturally moisturise the skin and increase the anti-ageing benefit. Vitamin E and beta glucan provide effective skin cell protection, locking moisture in the skin and helping to protect against environmental influences e.g. sun, wind. Natural caffine and rusco help firm the skin, resulting in smooth soft skin.

Anti-Age Sun Screen SPF15 is the perfect sun protector for your face. All Lavera sun protection and care products are, of course, tested to the highest European standards as well as being completely free from synthetic chemical ingredients. They are also suitable fo use by vegetarians and vegans.

Using a Glass Grater to Make Purees for Weaning Babies – A Free Video

By Sabine on 12 June 2009

Since yesterday’s post with a story about a grandmother wanting to buy two glass graters, I have been asked by a number of customers if I could make the video of using the glass grater available as a file to download so they could more easily show family and friends.

Here then is the Ulula glass grater video in .mpg format to download (right click the link and select the option to save the file): (3.42 Mb): Glass Grater Video.

Of course, if you would prefer you can always watch the video in the page of yesterday’s post, and read the lovely story of how the customer came to buy two glass graters in the first place.

You have to see it to believe just easily and quickly you can make the perfect purees for weaning your baby.

Lovely Story on Making Purees For Weaning a Baby When Out and About

By Sabine on 11 June 2009

UK Exclusive
Glass Grater

Watch the video below and add to your order now

Price: £12.85

I was told a really nice story recently when a grandmother phoned wanting to buy two of our popular glass graters. When I said that it is unusual for someone to buy two at a time she told me that they were actually for two of her daughters, one of whom is pregnant and the other has a baby coming up to weaning age – neither of who were yet customers of Ulula.

The grandmother explained that her third daughter – who is a Ulula customer – had previously bought a glass grater and the four of them had all that day gone out for lunch in their local Marks and Spencer cafe. She told me:

“We got our meals and sat down. My daughter reached into her baby’s bag and brought out her glass grater – none of us had seen it before. Then she took out an apple and a banana. She cut the apple into four and there and then made the baby’s lunch! She just quickly rubbed the apple on the grater, mashed in a bit of banana and mixed it all togther. The whole thing was ready in a minute. My other two daughters sat there amazed. All I heard during lunch was how good the glass graters are and how they had to buy one.”

So, as soon as she got home she thought she would treat her daughters and buy them both a glass grater. How sweet!

I thought I would repost our short video showing just how quick and easy our glass grater is at making purees when weaning your baby. It really does have to be seen to be believed.

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

Glass graters have been used for generations by mums to prepare pureed fruit and vegetables when first weaning their babies. Using a glass grater gives you exactly the right consistency of fruit or vegetables you need when preparing your home made baby food. Experience shows us that no other grater can achieve this consistency with so little mess or waste.

Share your glass grater stories and tell other mums how it helps you wean your baby, wherever you are.

Holle Meat Based Organic Baby Weaning Recipes – An Update

By Sabine on 10 June 2009

A very quick post today with further updates on  Holle organic baby food in jars.

As we mentioned in a previous article towards the end of April, the  certified biodynamic chicken in the popular Holle Organic Pumpkin and Chicken jars is currently almost impossible to source on the continent and we are currently out of stock.

Unfortunately, our remaining stock of our Organic Meat Baby Weaning Lunches (3x Organic Pumpkin and Chicken and 3 x Potatoes, Corn and Beef) is now also depleted. We apologise to all those mums and dads who have contacted us asking for their baby’s favourite meat weaning recipes – Holle are not currently able to give us a delivery date as they are not yet able to source the chicken to the high quality that they demand for their baby foods. We will keep you posted as we hear news.

In the meantime, as you will see from yesterday’s blog post, Holle have released their Finest Organic Beef baby jars. These particular baby jars have a very high meat content and are intended to be used as an accompaniment to a vegetable or grain based meal, not as a meal in itself. You only need to use half a jar at a time, making them excellent value for money.

Holle have today told me that they intend to release a similarly high meat content turkey jar as an additional meat accompaniment, for those parents wanting to introduce high quality organic meat into their baby’s weaning diet. As always, we will keep you posted.

What organic baby weaning recipes would you like to see Holle include in their jarred range? Let us know and we’ll pass it on.

Holle Organic Baby Food Jars – Two New Recipes Now Available

By Sabine on 9 June 2009

Holle have recently introduced two new organic baby food jars to their ever increasing range of simple, wholesome and natural recipes. Ulula is please to be the exclusive UK supplier for these new baby jars and our initial taste tests amongst family and friends show they deserve to be real weaning winners.

Holle Organic Finest Beef

Holle organic beef meat baby jar

Holle organic beef meat baby jar

The Holle Organic Finest Beef baby jars are not intended to be a complete meal in itself, but rather are to be used as a meat accompaniment to your homemade baby weaning recipes or to mix into a jar of one of Holle’s great pureed vegetable baby jars and/or one of their organic baby porridges. Please only use half a jar for a single meal – you can safely store the other half for the next day in the fridge (below 5°) – making these meat jars excellent value for money.

The organic beef used in these jars is of premium Swiss origin and is from cows that have been raised in pastures that have been organically cultivated for decades. Holle has close relationships with its farmers and will only work with those whose high quality standards meet their demanding expectations and that rear their animals in the most humane and natural way.

Holle Pumpkin With Rice

These lovely jars were firm favourites with our testers whose babies loved the mild pumpkin flavour of this recipe – one mum even placed an order for three cases before her daughter had finshed the meal!

The Holle Organic Pumpkin and Rice is ideal if, as can sometimes happen, your baby has developed a tendency to constipation after introducing root vegetables like carrots – switching to pumpkin as a weaning vegetable for your baby is usually then recommended.

Weleda Skin Food Wins Major Beauty Award – Why Not Treat Yourself?

Weleda Skin Food

Weleda Skin Food - award winning treats for mums

Classic Beauty Product of the Year

Weleda have just announced that their wonderful Skin Food has won the prestigious Silver Award for the Classic Beauty Product of the Year at the Clothes Show London. I use the Skin Food everyday and can certainly agree that it is a real winner!

Weleda Skin Food is a rich cream to deeply nourish, protect and repair skin. It is one of Weleda’s original skincare products and is extremely popular now due to it being ‘discovered’ by a number of celebrities – and, of course, the fantastic combination of plant extracts that really do feed your skin the goodness it needs.

Mums Work Hard – You Deserve Treats Too!

Weleda Skin Food is a deep-penetrating replenishing skin repair cream for dry patches of skin and for added protection. It  contains extracts of soothing chamomile, calendula, wild pansy and a blend of enriching oils and waxes to provide a fine protective barrier against the ravages of the weather.

Even before the addition of the plant extracts and essential oils the base itself is food for dry skin. Hypoallergenic lanolin, sweet almond oil and sunflower seed oil are three of the main ingredients of the base. Lanolin, chemically, is almost identical to sebum, the natural oil produced by the skin. It is therefore an ideal substance to ‘feed’ to dry skin. Both almond and sunflower seed oil soften and soothe the skin and also assist in the penetration of other soothing, rejuvenating ingredients.

How and When to Use Weleda Skin Food

Skin Food can be used as a nourishing day and night cream. It is good for rough, dry skin anywhere on the body; face, hands, elbows, knees etc. It can be used as a protective cream in harsh weather and is excellent for anyone regularly out of doors.

Directions for Use

A little goes a long way, so apply sparingly. This very rich cream is best applied to the face by gently patting on so as to avoid dragging the skin. Elsewhere on the body gently smooth into the skin until the cream is absorbed. To deeply nourish hard working, dry hands: apply liberally, cover with cotton gloves and leave overnight.

I use the Weleda Skin Food everyday and can feel the results. Let me know how you like Weleda’s latest prize winner.

Let us know how we can improve your online organic baby food shopping experience for you and other parents. Leave us a comment, send an email or even give us  ring.

Preparing Holle Baby Porridges – Avoiding Lumps

By Sabine on 3 June 2009

Sometimes parents tell me that they find it difficult to prepare the Holle organic baby porridges without lumps. I instantly know the problem and a simple piece of advice is all that is needed to quickly and simply prepare baby porridges with a fine, smooth consistency that is perfect for weaning babies.

Baby Porridges Without Lumps

So, how can the baby porridges be prepared in such a way as to completely avoid a lumpy texture? Simply add the liquid to the bowl first and then stir in the powdered baby porridge.

I think, as adults, we become so accustomed to mixing liquids into powders that we sometimes find this counter-intuitive and we automatically prepare the baby porridges the same way. But by closely following the instructions on the packaging lumps really should not occur, allowing you to feed your baby the perfect porridge.

Just a few other general pointers when feeding your baby with the Holle baby porridge range:

  • Please follow the ingredients measurements on the baby porridge packaging carefully. The correct amount of ingredients will ensure your baby receives the correct nutrients for his or her age and developmental stage.
  • Always prepare baby porridges freshly for each feed. Do not use leftovers.
  • Due to the risk of overheating, please do not heat baby porridges in a microwave.

Do let me know your questions about our organic baby foods and weaning babies – your questions can help others too.

Holle have recently announced a change in their recipe for the Organic Three Grain Baby Porridge – the cereal is now the first gluten free multi-grain baby porridge on the market.

The Swiss organic baby food manufacturer has just launched the new 3 grain baby porridge recipe on the continent and we are pleased to already have an ample supply of cases of the gluten free version available to purchase.

Holle Organic Three Grain Baby Porridge – Ingredients

The Holle Organic Three Grain Baby Porridge is made from three popular gluten free organic/biodynamic grains – rice, corn and millet – and is suitable for all babies including those with a gluten intolerance and those who wish to avoid feeding their babies with foods containing gluten before the age of 6 months.

When and How to Use?

The 3 grain is an ideal porridge during the second and third stages of weaning your baby.

As with all Holle baby porridges you can prepare the Organic Three Grain Porridge for your baby’s breakfast with breast milk, baby milk formula or even water.

By adding freshly prepared fruit puree (quickly and simply prepared using the Ulula glass grater) or adding some teaspoons of one of the Holle fruit jars your baby will enjoy a delicious and nutritious afternoon snack.

To make a lunch for your baby just add the Holle gluten free Three Grain Baby Porridge to your home made vegetable puree or mix with Holle carrots, carrots with apple or parsnips.

Let us know how your baby likes the new gluten free recipe for the Holle Three Grain Baby Porridge, whether he or she has a gluten intolerance or not.
