I am delighted to tell you that Ulula now stocks the fantastic Weleda Pregnancy Body Oil. The oil is part of Weleda’s new pregnancy care range which has been developed in conjunction with doctors and midwives to provide comfort and skin care for mums before, during and after pregnancy. The specially formulated pregnancy body oil helps prevent and treat stretch marks during pregnancy and has recently been awarded the  ‘Must Have Belly Balm’ award by TIPS. Read the TIPS review below.

The pregnancy oil has a base of sweet almond oil, which gently works to deliver intensely moisturizing essential fatty acids that keep your skin supple and protected from drying. Because pregnancy is a big job for your muscles and skin, the organic arnica flower extract helps ease tightness and provides a layer of comforting warmth when you indulge yourself with a soothing massage using the oil. Nourishing wheat germ oil conditions and refines your skin’s texture and delivers a high quantity of vitamins A, D and E.

In summary then, regular use of the Weleda Pregnancy Body Oil visibly helps to correct the appearance of stretch marks on your pregnant belly; your thighs, bottom and breasts; and helps prevent the appearance of new ones.

Using Weleda Pregnancy Body Oil – Banish Stretch Marks

Weleda Pregnancy Body Oil can be applied two to three times daily – from the beginning of pregnancy up to three months after birth – with light, circular massage movements over the stomach, thighs, bottom and breasts.

A kneading massage is not recommended. If you are unsure of the best way to apply body oils, please consult with your midwife, nurse or doctor. Please note that oils containing Arnica should not be used on broken skin as they may cause irritation.

TIPS Awards 2010 – Must Have Belly Balm

“Manufactured to the highest standards using naturally sourced raw materials and organic essential oils, this pregnancy oil was a favourite with our pregnant testers. The extensive Weleda range is produced by a company with ethical and environmentally-friendly credentials that are second to none. The information on pack and online is excellent. It follows the latest guidelines published by National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and by the Department of Health. Testers said the product was easy to use and absorbed immediately. They liked its ‘gorgeous’ scent. Testers were impressed that the oil contains arnica, which is a natural anti-inflammatory. Testers suggested awarding this excellent product a ‘must-have’ to show how much they had enjoyed using this soothing oil.”

The Weleda Pregnancy Body Oil is rapidly becoming a very popular must have item on every mum-to-be’s shopping list. And who doesn’t want to avoid those disfiguring stretch marks if at all possible? Let us know how you get on with the oil by either leaving a comment to this article or posting a customer review using the link at the bottom of the Weleda Pregnancy Body Oil page itself.

Weleda Wins More Ethical Awards

By Sabine on 24 August 2010

Weleda Calendula Baby Nappy Change Cream

Weleda Calendula Baby Nappy Change Cream

Weleda have recently celebrated four coveted new awards. In the Ethical Living Health & Beauty Awards, a shortlist of 10 categories was drawn up by the editorial team and readers’ panel. Weleda won each of the 4 categories where they were shortlisted thanks to readers votes.

Weleda Skin Food – Best Skincare Product

Weleda Skin Food scooped the Best Skincare Product award, making this the 10th award in the UK for this true beauty  classic in the past two years alone! This impressive multi-tasker has proven to be unbeatable in all areas: from high  fashion glossies through to trade journals and complementary health practitioner magazines. This product now enjoys a  high profile following with dozens of beauty professionals, supermodels and ‘screen goddesses’ amongst its fan club.

Weleda Nappy Change Creams – Best Baby Product

Weleda’s Calendula Nappy Change Cream was awarded Best Baby Product, squeezing out of the limelight other well  known products from Green People and Burts Bees. This award comes hot on the heals of the 2010 TIPS midwife-tested  awards where Weleda’s nappy cream also won Best of the Best. Not surprisingly this unbeatable cream is Weleda’s no.1  selling product in the UK and has a huge following of mums and midwives, as well as a celebrity fan base of ‘yummy mummies’ including Dannii Minogue.

Weleda – Best Overall Brand

Weleda also celebrated the Award for Best Overall Brand, beating other natural brands Lavera, Green People and Jason for this coveted prize!

Ethical Living’s editor Kim Marks enthused:
“I’ve always loved Weleda’s range and that our readers agree is no surprise! These awards are well deserved and I’m  delighted for Weleda, a brand I know is led by principles and quality.”

Do you agree with the readers of the Ethical Living magazine? Which is your favourite Weleda product and why? Let us know your story.

Weleda’s Calendula Cream Bath Wins Prizes Again

By Sabine on 23 May 2010

The delicately fragrant, moisturising Calendula Cream Bath from the all-natural Weleda Baby range has been voted ‘Best of the Best’ Baby Bath in the latest midwife-tested TIPS Awards. As midwife and author Sharon Trotter, the founder of the TIPS independent testing initiative explains:

This gorgeous cream bath makes a welcome change from bubble bath. It is easy to dispense, non-greasy and completely safe for everyone to use. Testers commented that it left their little ones’ and their own skin silky smooth. It also proved effective against dry skin. This product made bath time an overwhelming success. The fact that it is manufactured by a company with outstanding ethical and environmentally-friendly credentials is an added bonus.

Dermatologically Tested Baby Skin Care

Weleda’s Calendula Cream Bath is free from lauryl/laureth sulphates (SLS/SLES) and especially suitable for easily irritated skin – ideal not just for babies but also for pregnancy when skin can become more sensitive than usual. It has been dermatologically-tested on skin prone to eczema and dermatitis, to check for gentleness and also for protection against moisture loss. This means the product is also suitable for older children and adults who have to take special care of their skin due to sensitivities. No surprise then that it’s a best kept beauty secret of several A-list babes including supermodel Georgia Jagger.

Weleda have been making natural baby products since the 1950s. Putting this experience to good use, Calendula Cream Bath is made with carefully selected ingredients including extract of sun-kissed calendula flowers, grown organically in Weleda’s biodynamic herb gardens. This is combined with precious plant oils of organic sesame and sweet almond, to protect skin against dryness.

Finally it is delicately fragranced with pure essential oils of lavender, rosemary, orange and ylang ylang – warming, nourishing and nurturing. When the children are bathed and put to bed, tired mums will also enjoy a relaxing soak in Calendula Cream Bath to soothe both the skin and the senses.

Weleda – The Choice of Celebrities

Weleda Baby was additionally voted ‘Best Baby Skincare Range’ in the recent Mother & Baby Awards earlier this spring. The range also has a celebrity fan club of yummy mummies including Gwyneth Paltrow, Demi Moore, Elizabeth Hurley, Elle Macpherson and Liv Tyler.

Have you tried the Weleda baby care range with your baby? Share your comments and experiences of this award winning range with other mums and dads.

Lavera Natural Suncare Range For Babies – Sun Protection Factors Explained

By Sabine on 7 July 2009

Lavera Baby and Child Suncream

Lavera Baby and Child Suncream

With the arrival of British summer, sales of the Lavera suncare range have been high amongst concerned parents wanting to protect their babies from the effects of the sun with the most natural suncreams on the market.

Lavera is the market leader for natural sun protection and has won many awards. Lavera was the first manufacturer worldwide to produce 100% natural mineral-based sun protection and is one of the only suncreams I will use on my own children.

Several parents have been asking about Sun Protection Factors (SPFs) and what they mean. We passed on your enquiries to Lavera and here is their reply.

With the introduction of the recent EU regulations, SPFs are now much more specifically declared on sun protection products.  The highest claimed SPF will be SPF 50+.

A sunscreen’s SPF is basically the degree to which it protects the skin from the direct rays of the sun. The sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays are in two varieties: UVA, which cause premature aging and damage to the skin and  UVB, which cause burning. Both UVA and UVB in excess can increase the risk of skin cancer in later life. SPF tells you how much longer it will take for your skin to begin to redden with the product on than if your skin was unprotected.

The protection given by sunscreens now has to be in a UVA:UVB  ratio of 1:3. This permits the producer to include the new UVAS symbol on their products.

In the past UVA protection given by a product did not have to be specified on sun protection labels  (SPF refers to UVB rays). A manufacturer could have  said UVA and UVB protection but the UVA may have been only the equivalent of 5% of the UVB. The protection now has to be in excess of 33%.

So far the only mineral sunscreen company to have achieved this standard (and use the symbol)  is LAVERA.

Apparently Ulula  has received several  comments regarding the Lavera’s new sun protection range and its maximum SPF of 20.

To clarify, as UVB radiation is the main cause of sunburn, we all look for a product that will protect us from this. A product with SPF 15 blocks out about 92% of UVB rays, while a product with an SPF of 20 blocks about 95% of UVB rays.

Sunscreens with higher SPF’s only provide minimal more protection. For instance, a suncream with SPF 50 will only provide another 2-3% more protection. Therefore Lavera sun creams with SPF 20 generally provide sufficient protection against harmful UVB rays, whilst remaining 100% natural, which is always a bonus.

The following sun care products from Lavera are now available for purchase.

Protecting Your Baby From The Sun

We all love the sunshine but it is so important to keep your baby safe, even on less sunny days during the summer. Always apply sufficient sun cream or spray through hot and sunny days as well as following a few other sensible precautions:

  • Babies under six months should never be exposed to the sun – always keep them in the shade;
  • Keep babies and children out of direct sunlight between 11am and 3pm;
  • Make sure they always wear a hat, preferably one that covers the top of the neck too;
  • Keep babies and children well hydrated;
  • Make sure they wear loose clothing made from close-weave fabric to prevent sun rays from penetrating;
  • Use natural sunscreens designed for children and apply frequently and in sufficient quantity;
  • Explain to your little ones why you are protecting them.

If you have any further questions about the Lavera suncare range, please do get in touch. Enjoy the summer!

Lavera after sun lotion

Lots of parents concerned with protecting their babies and children from the effects of the sun have asked if we could stock after sun lotion. We have therefore added the award winning Lavera After Sun Lotion to our suncare range and it is now available for immediate despatch.

Lavera After Sun Lotion pleasantly cools, moisturises and soothes your skin after spending time in the sun. Moisturising aloe vera gel and sea buckthorn oil naturally soothe the skin. Essences of rose, lavender and green tea cool the skin after sunbathing. Skin nourishment is provided through active ingredients of jojoba oil, olive oil and shea butter.

The Lavera After Sun Lotion was a winner in the Natural Health magazine beauty awards and is, as you would expect from Lavera, produced from only the finest quality natural and organic ingredients.

Limited Stock of Organic Sun Creams for Mums – Treat Yourself

While stocking up on the Lavera suncare range I thought Ulula should have something that little bit special for all you hard working mums. The ageing effects of lots of sunshine are well known, so we now have for immediate sale some of the excellent Lavera Anti-Age Sun Cream. We do only have a limited stock of this sun cream so please do order early.

Anti-Aging SPF15 is waterproof and offers sun protection against UVA, UVB and UVC rays as well as helping to prevent skin damage and ageing. Innovative active ingredients hyaluronic acid and organic aloe vera naturally moisturise the skin and increase the anti-ageing benefit. Vitamin E and beta glucan provide effective skin cell protection, locking moisture in the skin and helping to protect against environmental influences e.g. sun, wind. Natural caffine and rusco help firm the skin, resulting in smooth soft skin.

Anti-Age Sun Screen SPF15 is the perfect sun protector for your face. All Lavera sun protection and care products are, of course, tested to the highest European standards as well as being completely free from synthetic chemical ingredients. They are also suitable fo use by vegetarians and vegans.

Weleda Skin Food Wins Major Beauty Award – Why Not Treat Yourself?

Weleda Skin Food

Weleda Skin Food - award winning treats for mums

Classic Beauty Product of the Year

Weleda have just announced that their wonderful Skin Food has won the prestigious Silver Award for the Classic Beauty Product of the Year at the Clothes Show London. I use the Skin Food everyday and can certainly agree that it is a real winner!

Weleda Skin Food is a rich cream to deeply nourish, protect and repair skin. It is one of Weleda’s original skincare products and is extremely popular now due to it being ‘discovered’ by a number of celebrities – and, of course, the fantastic combination of plant extracts that really do feed your skin the goodness it needs.

Mums Work Hard – You Deserve Treats Too!

Weleda Skin Food is a deep-penetrating replenishing skin repair cream for dry patches of skin and for added protection. It  contains extracts of soothing chamomile, calendula, wild pansy and a blend of enriching oils and waxes to provide a fine protective barrier against the ravages of the weather.

Even before the addition of the plant extracts and essential oils the base itself is food for dry skin. Hypoallergenic lanolin, sweet almond oil and sunflower seed oil are three of the main ingredients of the base. Lanolin, chemically, is almost identical to sebum, the natural oil produced by the skin. It is therefore an ideal substance to ‘feed’ to dry skin. Both almond and sunflower seed oil soften and soothe the skin and also assist in the penetration of other soothing, rejuvenating ingredients.

How and When to Use Weleda Skin Food

Skin Food can be used as a nourishing day and night cream. It is good for rough, dry skin anywhere on the body; face, hands, elbows, knees etc. It can be used as a protective cream in harsh weather and is excellent for anyone regularly out of doors.

Directions for Use

A little goes a long way, so apply sparingly. This very rich cream is best applied to the face by gently patting on so as to avoid dragging the skin. Elsewhere on the body gently smooth into the skin until the cream is absorbed. To deeply nourish hard working, dry hands: apply liberally, cover with cotton gloves and leave overnight.

I use the Weleda Skin Food everyday and can feel the results. Let me know how you like Weleda’s latest prize winner.

Three Natural Steps to Tone, Firm and Detox

Weleda has put more than 85 years expertise into the 3-in-1 birch skincare system. It consists of 3 products that work together to restore your skin’s natural radiance – each one can be used individually to target problem areas.

Step 1: Buff Away Bumps

Weleda’s Birch Body Scrub is the latest addition to the range and is perfect for using in the shower to gently slough away skin cells to leave skin looking smooth and revitalized. Natural plant wax pearls and pure plant oils help soothe and moisturise dry skin. The Birch Body Scrub leaves skin feeling truly invigorated.

Step 2: Boost Your Skin Tone

The top-selling Weleda Birch Cellulite Oil is made from a special mix of organic silver birch to help flush out toxins; organic rosemary extract to stimulate circulation and Ruscus extract to help tone skin. Use this oil after the body scrub – apply regularly for a month for best results – to help tackle cellulite and improve the smoothness of your skin. It also has a gorgeous uplifting scent of citrus.

Step 3: Shift the Toxins

Looking fabulous on the outside requires care on the inside. Birch Juice is an organic health supplement that helps the body eliminate toxins, leaving skin looking clear and healthy. Taking the juice is easy – simply add a tablespoon to tea, water or stir it into your yoghurt for breakfast.

What are your experiences with Weleda skin and body care products? Have you tried the Birch range? Share your action plan for smoother thighs!
