Description

A pretty little viola that can be sown and grown almost any month of the year. The plants grow to around 15-20cm and have delicate petals of purple, cream and yellow. Also known as wild pansy or heartsease, this little plant is hardy and frost tolerant and self-seeds easily, coming up again year after year. It grows well in the garden in beds as well as in pots and containers, and is happy in both sun and partial shade. As well as a pretty cut flower, it is also edible and looks beautiful added to salads and used to decorate cakes.

Info & Care

Indoor sowing: Sow under cover in seed trays March and September in a cold greenhouse or on a cool windowsill. Because the plants are small, transplant in groups of 3-4 plants and plant out in these small groups at a distance of 10–15cm.
Outdoor sowing: Direct sow April-August, 3mm deep and gently raked in. The soil must be weed-free and have a fine tilth.
Growing instructions: Pick or deadhead regularly to extent the flowering season.
