Description

Not only do these pretty cornflowers come in a beautiful array of colours - from white to pink to blue and purple - they are a magnet for pollinators including butterflies and bees. The flower petals are edible and have a slightly spicy, clove-like taste and brighten up a summer salad. They are also an excellent cut flower as they last brilliantly out of water. Once a common sight in cornfields, this lovely annual is perfect for naturalising a sunny bed or corner. Flowers from June to September.

Info & Care

Sowing: Sow March-May or August-October either under cover or direct into the garden just before the last frost and again every two weeks until the end of May. This is to prolong the flowering display. Thin the seedlings to 30cm apart. Late sowings in pots can either be planted out in autumn or overwintered under cover for planting out in spring.
Growing instructions: Water well until established. They require little care, although regular deadheading will prolong the already substantial flowering period.
