Buckwheat is neither a cereal grain nor related to wheat. It is in fact the seed of a broadleaf plant related to rhubarb. While it is not a true grain, it is used like one in cooking, and has more health benefits than rice, wheat and corn. Roasted buckwheat groats are dark brown with a nutty flavor.
