Our Delicious Recipe Suggestions

  • Simple recipes are the best;
  • When you cook homemade baby food always use fresh vegetables and fruit, preferably organic;
  • Do not season your baby’s food. If your little one is happy on solid food, after a couple of weeks you can try adding very finely chopped parsley or chives;
  • Take it slowly, all babies are different. Some learn more quickly than others.

Baby Weaning Recipes Step 1 - Recipe for the first solid meal from 4 months

Carrots are mild, slightly sweet and easy on babies’ tummies. This makes them a very popular vegetable for introducing babies to solids. Carrots can, however, cause slight constipation. If this is the case parsnips, broccoli or pumpkin are good alternatives. During the first fortnight start off by feeding your baby a few spoonfuls of cooked, puréed vegetable, gradually increasing the amount as you progress. We recommend adding two teaspoons of Holle Organic Weaning Oil per jar of baby food or per approx. 190-200g of freshly cooked vegetables.

Tip: Babies find it easier to eat if fed with a plastic spoon as it is not as cold as a metal one. The Holle Spoons are made from 100% renewable resources.

Tip: When starting with solids, babies will only eat small amounts and it can be practical to freeze meals or jars of baby food in several small portions. These portions can be thawed out as required. Please note that baby food should never be frozen and thawed more than once.

If the carrot meal is handled easily during the first two weeks, then the pure carrot meal can be replaced with a carrot-potato meal.

Ingredients for a vegetable-potato meal

90 g Carrots (or another vegetable like parsnip, broccoli or pumpkin)
40 g Potatoes
8-10 g 2 teaspoon of Holle Organic Baby Weaning Oil
2 tablespoons fruit juice (vitamin C rich)

Wash the vegetable and peel the potatoes and cut both into small cubes. Boil the vegetables and potatoes in just a small amount of water until both ingredients are soft. Puree the mash and add some oil as well as the fruit juice.

Somewhat later, we recommend adding some meat (ca. 25 g) to the pure carrot-potato meal 2-3 times a week. Meat contains important nutrients and promotes the resorption of essential iron. Lean beef or chicken meat can be used. If you don't want to prepare the meat yourself, then you can use the vegetable-meat jars from organically raised animals.

Once the first mash has been established, then other high-nutrient vegetables or vegetable jars can be used such as parsnip or broccoli, for example. The vegetable lunchtime meals can be supplemented to a fully-fledged meal by using the Holle Organic Porridges. Just mix 2 tablespoons of Holle porridge (any variety) and 2 teaspoons of Weaning Oil into the still hot vegetable puree - that's it!

Recipe for the milk-grain porridge after the 5th - 7th month

The second porridge is usually a milk-grain porridge, which replaces an evening breastfeeding or bottle meal. This milk-grain porridge is prepared with the Holle Organic Porridges and milk with the addition of fruit juice that is rich in vitamin C.  Breast milk, Holle infant formulas or fresh milk can be used as alternatives to milk.

100 ml water
100 ml whole milk
25 g Holle Organic Baby Porridge (5 tablespoons)
2 tablespoons fruit juice (vitamin C rich)

Boil 100 ml of whole milk and 100 ml water and allow the liquid to cool to 50°C. Then put the liquid on a plate and mix in 25 g of Holle Organic Porridge (5 tablespoons). To make it easier to absorb iron, we recommend adding 2 tablespoons of a vitamin C rich fruit juice as well. You should now let the porridge thicken and cool to an eating temperature.

Ingredients for preparation with breast milk

130 ml breast milk
25 g Holle Organic Porridge (5 tablespoons)

Mix 25 g of organic porridge into 130 ml of warm breast milk. And now the porridge is ready.

When prepared with breast milk, the phenomenon occurs that the milk-grain porridge often becomes liquid again after being left for a short time. Enzymes that are still intact are mainly responsible for this. If the porridge becomes liquid too soon, then prepare smaller portions.

Recipe for junior food as of the 8th month

As of approximately the 8th month, your baby is able to eat more chunky food. The vegetable porridge with grain is no longer pureed as much and the fruit porridge can contain somewhat coarser pieces of fruit. This change to the consistency of the food stimulates the baby to chew. He can now also be served the organic Junior Meals in Jars. Then, as of the 12th month and thereafter, you can slowly make the transition to general family food, naturally with less salt, spices and sweeteners.
