About Ulula

Lots of Ulula visitors have asked how Ulula came about – here is a brief history.

Ulula is the brainchild of Sabine Gaszow, who moved to Norfolk in 2002 from the former East Germany. As a young mum she was disappointed by the baby food on offer in England. In Germany there is much stricter regulation around organic food and Sabine was used to buying baby foods of very exacting standards.

After the birth of her third child in England, anxieties began to grow about how she was going to feed her baby with organic foods she fully trusted. She recognised that there was a gap in the market for biodynamic and organic baby and toddler food. Sabine set about looking to Europe for suppliers and she is now a leading supplier of the Holle, Werz and ErdmannHAUSER ranges in the UK.

The rest is history and, in fact, in April 2008 Ulula celebrates its third year of trading. Ulua is run by Sabine from her home in Norfolk and she juggles a busy working life with her partner and three children.

What Does Ulula Mean?

If you ever wondered what our unusual name means here is the answer. Ulula means owl in Latin and the owl has long been a symbol for purity and wisdom and Sabine felt this would perfectly represent what the company believes in. She also happens to live in the lovely Norfolk countryside where, if you are very lucky, these beautiful birds can be spotted among the woodland.
