Info & Care

10 seeds

Sow indoors: Sow squash seeds on their side 12 - 20mm deep in small pots of good compost from late March through April. Propagate under glass or place on a windowsill. Germination takes 10-14 days. Transplant the seedlings into bigger pots when large enough to handle. Keep barely moist and protect from strong light. Acclimatise and plant out once danger of frost has passed.
Growing instructions: Grow outdoors in a sunny, sheltered place or in cold-frames in moisture and humus rich soil and water the base of the plant (not the leaves or fruit) regularly, especially in dry weather. Plant one plant for 1-2 m². If the late summer is very wet place a large stone or a brick under the fruits to prevent rotting. Harvest in autumn up until November and before the first frosts. Cut the squash from the vine leaving 5cm of stalk on the fruit and if possible allow 5 days in the sun before storing in a frost free (temperatures of 10-15°c), well ventilated place for up to 6 months. Do not wash until you are ready to use.
